Issued as a joint declaration on 14 August 1941, The Atlantic Charter was an agreement between by British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt, aboard a warship at Naval Station Argentia. The Atlantic Charter established a vision for a post-World War II world, even though the United States had yet to enter the War. In the agreements they established 8 post war settlements.
The 8 Post War Settlements:
- no territorial gains were to be sought by the United States or the United Kingdom;
- territorial adjustments must be in accord with the wishes of the peoples concerned;
- all people had a right to self-determination;
- trade barriers were to be lowered;
- there was to be global economic cooperation and advancement of social welfare;
- the participants would work for a world free of want and fear;
- the participants would work for freedom of the seas;
- there was to be disarmament of aggressor nations, and a postwar common disarmament.
"The Dust Bowl"
In the 1930's when everything was already going horribly wrong, dust storms scattered all over the plains of Southeastern Colorado, and Southwest Kansas, making the problems during the Great Depression even worse. "The Dust Bowl" occurred April 14, 1925 thanks to the lack of rain fall that past couple of months. The wind picked up the soil and dirt that was loose and spread it across the nation in various storms, this blew away the top soil, thus ruining the farm land. Many families trapped in their own homes, and land unable to escape the storms, after the storm it was said the dust had found its way into people homes, and it was so think people were digging buckets full of dust out of their homes. Farmer's hoped that the land they have invested so much in would return to normal, but all hope was lost when the rain never fell, thus making them move to the Pacific Coast. This made unemployment problems worse, resulting in making The Great Depression worse. It was all just bad timing.
In the 1920's a new type of women emerged, one who smoked, drank, danced, voted, cut her hair, wore make-up and did whatever she pleased. These women were called Flappers. These women were very rebellious, and they had a lot of attitude! A flapper's image consisted of drastic make-up and outfits, fancy dresses were no more! Considering, the 1920's were big on jazz, Flapper's were often found doing a variety of dances such as the Charleston and the Shimmy something women were never able to do. These rebellious women did not care what anyone thought about them, they did whatever their heart desired, after living so long being contained Flapper's were ready to flourish into the women they have always wanted to be.
